About Us
The Coal Mine Campground was built by us. Originally a roadside stop and garage in the 60s, all buildings were eventually removed, and the property grew over with trees and brush.
Pleased to meet you! We are Dale and Sam Best, proud owners of the Coalmine Campground. We are long time Yukoners and entrepreneurs that have been hosting guests and travellers by water and road for 25+ years. We bought the property in 1999 and started the two-year process to clear the land and get the necessary permits and permissions. We did most of the work by hand ourselves to get things rolling. In 2001, we opened the campsites and a small mobile snack stand, which most people will remember as the clown. Over the years, we did more work and added RV sites and cabins, one at a time.

We have since grown into a very busy campground, providing both river and road travelers with a nice place to rest for the night. We also provide long-term accommodations and meals for construction crews in the area. Our restaurant is very busy with travelers enjoying a good home-cooked meal while sitting by the riverside or in the covered dining hall.
We offer a friendly atmosphere with a rustic edge, and we are known as the BEST place.
